Further Adventures of the Three Musketeers
27 March 2018
Pretty fun swashbuckler that finds Louis Hayward playing twins separated at birth and reunited in later years when one is the despicable king of France and the other shows up to thwart his dastardly plans. The good brother gets thrown in prison for a while with the eponymous iron mask as his only friend, until the three musketeers, led by Warren Williams's D'Artagnan, set him free.

The musketeers take a bit of a back seat in this film, actually. Louis Hayward has a ball with his dual role, and he and Joseph Schildkraut steal the show in their scenes together as two fey corrupt members of the French aristocracy, the kind of villains you love to hate. Joan Bennett is in the film too, but like most heroines in films like these, she's boring.

Alfred Newman received an Oscar nomination for the film's score.
