Judy Garland as herself
20 June 2018
Anyone who thinks of Judy Garland as a spastic entertainer with big, poufy hair, instead of a little girl in pigtail braids, needs to rent I Could Go On Singing. Judy hadn't sung in her movies since A Star Is Born, and in this powerful drama, she plays a famous beloved singer who put her career above her family. As a result, she has emotional problems, a reliance on substances, and no relationship with her ex-husband Dirk Bogarde and son Gregory Phillips.

Basically, in Judy's last movie she plays herself, and when she has her dramatic monologues about her ruined life or her alcoholism, it's very sad to watch. On the other hand, it's a secret delight to watch when stars play versions of themselves, letting us see how they really are when the cameras aren't rolling. So, if you like Judy Garland despite her personal problems and want to see how she really was, rent this one. When she sings the title song, it's an incredibly memorable experience, and perfect end to her film career.
