Better Than Average Criminal Film - The Limits of Control
30 November 2018
Make no mistake, Jim Jarmusch is in complete control of this film. The direction and the cinematography are as highly controlled as these things can be. The lead character lives on a steady diet of expresso and paper. The strength of this film is that it uses images instead of dialogue; something I teach my students in Advertising. Some of the images are mundane, but several of them are very interesting. Needless to say, the pace of this film is extremely relaxed, however, there is a certain amount of tension that is being built. Two heavyweight actors, Bill Murray and John Hurt make cameo appearances for characters that could have been played by anyone. Not for all tastes; especially for those craving traditional action from their criminal films.
