Obvious and thin.

The term Flogging a dead horse" comes to mind here.

This third instalment in the Friday franchise is a straight to video tier farce which bears little to no resemblance to the first film which, although a comedy, had some well rounded character, a great setting, and just enough of a serious streak to give it some weight.

Friday after Next is just goofy setpiece after goofy setpiece, with paper thin character and obvious jokes. Ice Cube once again is the sole writer of the movie and it's maybe obvious that DJ Pooh's hand in the first film's screenplay was more significant that was maybe realised. With a different director for each film in the franchise and a cast which changes bar a few core characters, one wonders why they didn't just do some brand new films, because the feel between each is very different.

There's no texture here, there's no roundness to the characters, and there's no real story either. It's moderately amusing, but given its pedigree it really feels like a TV movie which doesn't know what it wants to be and isn't very good at the stuff it goes for.

There are far better stoner comedies out there, and this is a poor entry into the genre.

Just stick with the first Friday film. It truly is a masterpiece.
