Sherrybaby (2006)
7/10
Quite enjoyable...
12 July 2019
When I sat down to watch "Sherrybaby" in mid 2019, I had never even heard about this 2006 movie from director and writer Laurie Collyer before. Regardless, I was given the chance to watch it, so I did.

Turns out that "Sherrybaby" was actually a rather enjoyable drama, and one that hits fairly hard given its plot and the portrayal of the characters involved in the storyline. I didn't really know what to expect as I sat down to watch the movie, given the fact that I knew nothing about it.

What drives this movie was the character gallery and the phenomenal performances of the involved actresses and actors. And I will say that Maggie Gyllenhaal really carried the movie so amazingly well with her performance, and I will admit that this movie actually showcased her as an actress to be reckoned with - unlike the performances I've seen in other movies of hers before. So she really stood out and excelled in this drama.

I think that "Sherrybaby" might not actually be a movie that falls well in everyone's taste, because it not a movie where a whole lot is actually happening throughout the course of the movie. But for me, it was the subtle things, the character development and the interactions between the various characters that really made the movie worthwhile watching.

"Sherrybaby" feels like a drama that could very well be taken right out of real life, because writer and director Laurie Collyer managed to create something very realistic and something that reach out and connects with the audience.

If you haven't already seen "Sherrybaby" then I can warmly recommend that you do so, should you be given the chance.
