Sam (Terri Hatcher) is a famous female model whose life is turned upside down after her sister discovers a rare flower and is hunted by a group of dangerous monks. Sam soon finds herself in the same amount of danger as her sister and she too goes on the run. Scared for her life, she bumps into a bouncer working out the of front of a nightclub named Ed, also known as "Brain Smasher" (Andrew Dice Clay). The two team up to try and survive the night, save the flower, save Sam's sister and smash some Ninjas... I mean Monks.
The dialogue between Andrew Dice Clay and Terri Hatcher is extremely cheesy. As far as comedy factor, any laughter that came out of my mouth was purely from the cringe worthy script which is delivered from a so called tough bouncer and a stunning model who seems to be forgetful all the time.
Throughout film, our leads are being hunted by Monks who continually get mistaken as ninjas (seriously, that's an repeated joke here). In many of the fists fights it is clear the actors are not actually connecting and during one scene you can actually see the wires that the actors used to make it look like they are flying and flipping from building to building. The action is overall dull. Needless to say, for the early 90s this film may have been cutting edge but sadly it doesn't hold up in present day. To put it politely, Brain Smasher is... A Love Story that perhaps falls into the category of "it's so bad, it's good" for some viewers.
As far as the music is concerned it lacks any fun or memorable music tracks. Considering the film has a plot that is wild and crazy, I was surprised to hear a very flat and dull soundtrack for the whole duration of the film. The soundtrack is simply repetitive and forgettable.
Overall, if you love a retro grindhouse style flick, then look no further! With cheesy dialogue, poorly done wire kung fu stunts and dull action this easily falls into the category of 'it's so bad, it's good'. Some viewers are bound to chuckle no matter what they see. Needless to say this is a film that doesn't hold up from the 90s. If you're an Andrew Dice Clay fan, Rock N' Reel Movie Reviews recommends you stick with "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" (1990), because when it comes to comedy that film is truly "Unbelievable".
