Chico & Rita was good in the technical departments and nothing you've seen before. The rather flat character designs moving in a 3D environment was different from many films made these days.
Essentially a slice of life of a musician who reminisces upon his career in which he met his love and followed her everywhere be it on purpose or by coincidence. He meets famous jazz musicians who aren't always good company, but keeps in touch with an old friend of his as an anchor in the harsh life of musicians.
While I didn't fully connect with the characters, I enjoyed the music and the cameos from the historical musicians and the flashback angle the film followed to make Chico a little more sympathetic than that jerk he more than once came off as. And the music and animation style made it unique in both look and feel.
