The actors turn in solid performances and the filming is competent, but 80s Hollywood was astonishingly glib an empty. This film managers to be bland even in its most frightening moments. I think it's the 80s hairstyles. it's kind of like how when you hear a southern accent, you begin to associated with stereotypes of stupidity and rural naivete. When you see those 80s hairdos, you really start thinking about how stupid the characters must be.
