Jack Ryan (2018–2023)

Season One Review - Meh...

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, so I just finished season one of Jack Ryan. Seen all the previous films, read all the books. Somewhat disappointed with this adaptation. A lot of potential here, good production values, convincing looking locations, big budgets, but the story was somewhat lacking. The bad guys started off being menacing and seeming to be worthy foes, yet in the end few episodes they are rather easily defeated to create the necessary happy ending at the end of the season.

Yet again my pet hate of the star being shot in that TV/film magic spot in the shoulder with the bullet from a pistol passing right through where there are no major blood vessels or nerves or tendons to be damaged. Good precision shooting bad guy. Anyone who has actually been shot in the shoulder can attest to the very debilitating nature of such a real life injury and the very protracted and painful rehab required to get it moving again. In TV land they carry on for the rest of the chase, yeah right. Why not give the actor a binding of some kind under his shirt to remind him he is supposed to be seriously wounded?

Let's hope if they are aiming to make a punchy realistic show that Season Two has a better script with more nuanced bad guys who are as smart as most of the super nasty head honcho villains are in real life.
