Review of Partners

Partners (1982)

Brilliant, funny & WAY ahead of it's time!

Partners is one of my ultimate favorite top comedy films, with a real feel good charm to it, but perhaps I am bias as it stars one of my all time favorite actors, Sir John Hurt as the adorable desk Officer Kerwin, forced by his boss to partner a womanising straight cop, to solve murders of gay models, by infiltraiting the gay community posing as a couple. Yes there are stereotypes, but the sterotypes are on both sides which makes this all the more fun as the two cops have to figure out how to solve the crime & how best to work together. I think it was also really ahead of it's time & groundbreaking, but seems to have sadly been forgotton. Apart from the excellent comedy there is also a seriously good cop/crime solving story & the chemistry between Ryan O'neil & John Hurt is absolutely exquisite! I genuinley feel they had some real fun making this, & it shows. This is one of those rare films (I feel) that if your feeling really low or have had a bad day Partners can really cheer you up, & even after all these years I still enjoy this lovely witty, cleverly written story.
