Love for a cad
3 February 2020
The musical film 'Rose of Washington Square' (1939), is a veiled biography of Fanny Brice in which Alice Faye plays 'Rose' and Tyrone Power is the cad in her life, along with Al Jolson in blackface too much of the time. Miss Brice sang the French classic 'My Man' in the 1921 Ziegfeld Follies, and Faye sings it near the end this film. Barbra Streisand's 1968 film 'Funny Girl' is a much closer biographical account is Miss Brice's life, and Streisand's rendition of "My Man" at the end of that film helped her win the Oscar for Best Actress.
