Liza on Demand (2018–2021)
6/10
Sort of goes flat after the pilot
10 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The pilot is fairly well written and acted. Liza is a very fine comedic actor. She's a great RE-actor. And the pilot is a good representation of her range.

But with the second episode, it veres into topical humor. And it becomes a mass of bad writing and horrible missed opportunities.

The hunk featured in the screen capture is a cretin who is literally nothing more than a (hopefully willing) sex object. That they follow this with some idiotic man tell Liza to "smile". You can't objectify one character and then immediately complain that she's treated the same way her show treated the male character.

It's not funny. It's not comfortable.

And then Liza pretends to be a man - IN LOS ANGELES by lowering her voice. Period. In LA.

The show exists in a weird place where it's the 1950's - Hubby pointed out she's doing I Love Lucy schtick - and yet everything is online. A space that the Liza character seems oddly unfamiliar with.

A swing and a miss.

6 stars for the great lead, and the great pilot.
