The Stranger (I) (2020)
8/10
"Secrets tear us apart." - Episode #8 - Chris Killane/The Stranger to Adam Price

Warning: Spoilers
I've never seen so many one sentence reviews of a movie or series here on IMDb as I have for 'The Stranger", both on the positive and negative side. I mean, what's the point really of coming here and saying you loved it or hated it and then not back up your sentiment with some useful commentary? I feel it's a disservice to serious viewers to write a throwaway review with nothing behind it.

Had to get that little rant out of the way. Anyway, I enjoyed this mystery drama, with episode after episode offering intriguing little reveals that add further suspense to the story line. Some of the plot threads wind up going nowhere which isn't really a problem within the big picture. One such instance was when The Stranger (Hannah John-Kamen) tried to shake down the father of an athlete on steroids and got pummeled for her trouble. However most of her blackmail attempts were cleverly crafted with just enough credibility to throw lives and careers into a tailspin, not to mention the handful of deaths that occurred along the way. The eighth and final episode offers a number of stunning revelations that tie up the dangling story lines, although it is true that some rely on a heavy dose of coincidence concerning the relationships among the characters.

It's intriguing to speculate on a follow up season to this series but I don't think that will happen. For one thing, I would bet that The Stranger learned her lesson on how the results of her actions caused such turmoil in the lives of those she impacted. Her quest to expose lies had gone awry often enough to put an end to that particular mission. Besides, with her exposure, the series would probably have to come up with a new Stranger, and that would totally dilute the concept offered in the original series.
