Warning: Spoilers
I have rather enjoyed several of the other films which explored Winston Churchill's life story -- "Young Winston", "The Gathering Storm", "The Darkest Hour", and others. So I was looking forward to this film, which encompasses the actual war years. I was greatly disappointed...not enough to turn it off, but nonetheless disappointed. It just seemed flat. Almost as if I was watching a documentary. Now if you like documentaries, that's fine. I don't.

The worst thing about the film, in my view, was the depiction of President Franklin Roosevelt. Len Cariou's portray of the president was the worst I have ever seen. Perhaps slightly passable in terms of look, but nothing in terms of speech patterns. Clearly he didn't do his homework.

Brendan Gleeson may have won an Emmy for his performance here, but I can't see it. He was appropriately pudgy. That's about the best I can say about his performance.

Janet McTeer was reasonably interesting as Lady Churchill, and I rather enjoyed James D'Arcy's role.

But flat. Just flat. How do you make a world war boring?
