This was a great thrilling episode, with a lot revealed and tension between the brothers was great.
Season 4 9.5/10
Season 4 was very different from the past 3, it became into a fantasy, it added a lot to the series with the main plot being strengthened and flowing flawlessly for a show that didn't plan this. Many episodes dedicated to the mythos and some great standalone ones.
Main plotlines were
1. Ruby good or evil, she was a great character, at one point even Dean starts trusting her
2. What is Sam doing and his fate, the demon blood and what it means for him, one of the saddest scenes was when Sam meets Castiel and he gets referred to as the boy with demon blood
3. Dean's faith
Dean being saved makes him hopeful but Tessa tells him that fear inside him should be listened to, one of my favorite scenes from the series
4. The angels, rebellion, faith
Everything about them is a mystery
5. Castiel
Great character, amazing character
6. Does God care?
7. The seals
8. Fillers
Most of them were very good, i like fillers and a show like spn can be almost just fillers, like its 1-3 series
9. Comedy
Great comic eps plus usual Dean sassery, though the character has lost his innocenct mannerisms, seems angry and deep most of the time.
10. Dean's time in hell
Perhaps a bit cringey, just because the topic itself is so heavy it can't be done in any other way
Basically there was a lot going on this season, way more than probably 1-3 combined, the monsters of the week were severely reduced to make room for angels and demons and the show is better for it because it deepens the mystery and drama between the brothers.
Some pet peeves i had were 1. Torture scenes Spn didn't put them in such focused light before, i just found the Allistair one cringey then Sam for no reason hallucinates him getting tortured and ruby 2. fight sequences Not very exciting 3. Angel and Demon mythology As it gets more developed, more questions just pop up about the mythology of these things, my least favourite is hell, it gets painted as this place where demons can just walk in and out, why? 4. The sympathetic monsters I got nothing against this, i think its good actually to show the grey areas of hunting, my problem is that almost all of them are just monsters who need to eat people to survive or were discriminated against, very few psycho mastermind monsters
