About five songs too many...and my daughter kept wanting to see more of the sea lion!

Jack and Nora (Dennis Morgan and Ann Sheridan) are a song and dance team who have all the talent in the world. But they also have a powerful enemy who is determined to destroy them because Nora rejected this jerk's advances long, long ago.

During the last few years, I've been trying to get my oldest daughter to see more old films. A few times, it was a major success--such as with "Casablanca", "The Third Man" and "Kiss of Death". However, in a few cases, it was a total failure...like with "Shine on Harvest Moon". Why? Because this Dennis Morgan/Ann Sheridan film has about five songs too many...so many that she became bored and kept demanding to see more of the sea lion who was in the beginning of the movie! And, in hindsight, she was absolutely right! The film lacked much in the way of plot and consisted of tons of songs that you've probably heard before...old standards from the turn of the 19th-20th century. And, as a result, the film is forgettable and will make it far more difficult for me to get her watch more musicals in the future. Top this off with a completely (and very typical) one-dimensional character from Marie Wilson and you have a film that's not even quite in the time-passer category.
