This is one of the first episodes to give Ethel somewhat of a voice and narrative, albeit still largely focused on Lucy. There's not a lot of solid comedy here but definitely more than solid acting and storyline.
This episode also influenced a lot of later television, as is seen in Three's Company when Chrissy mistakes Mrs. Roper's gift as her own, as well as Mama's Family when Thelma thinks Vint's boss' gift for his wife is from Vint to her.
