The search for the killer of Reverend Booker Simons proves to be more complicated than expected. Former street gang leader turned law student Jesus Martinez (smoothly played by Trinidad Silva) defends hooker Lotta Gue (a deliciously sexy turn by Loren Sorrenson) in court. Hill (solid Michael Warren) and Renko (sturdy Charles Haid) find a dead man in an apartment with a live sheep in the bathroom.

The search for the priest's killer proves to be quite riveting and exciting in equal measure, with a plea bargain with the perp to help with a drug bust resulting in the charges against said perp being knocked down to a relatively minor charge. Moreover, the whole business with the sheep in the apartment is quite funny in a perverse sort of way. The subplot concerning underage hooker Carla (a touching performance by Holly Lauren) adds some additional wrenching poignancy. Furillo (a terrific Daniel J. Travanti) has a strong scene in which he has to reprimand his ex-wife Faye (an excellent Barbra Bosson) for not doing her job correctly. Moreover, there are nice bits by Miguel Ferror as a wormy dope dealer and veteran character actor John Davis Chandler as a landlord. Hector Elizondo also excels as bullish Inspector Joe Keenan while Jon Cypher positively oozes as the ever-slimy and opportunistic Chief Daniels.
