A Non-Permanent Memory

So we got a guy here who is a successful Hollywood writer, but also a heroin junkie. He gets clean, then becomes successful again. OK.... Not that interesting to be honest, and definitely not a character I care about.

I respect that this is a true story based on a real person (fun fact he was the doctor in the movie dissing Stiller on his odds on making it). I also respect that he wrote a book about his addiction and that he made it out. I just don't get why this would make a good movie, because it doesn't. I just don't feel bad enough for Stiller's character to actually root for him. Call me heartless, but when someone throws away a happy ending relationship with Elizabeth Hurley (I have no idea why she was actually with him other than the green card) I don't feel bad for you, you're just dumb. Then he has another shot at actually being happy with his new girl by moving to Alaska, and he passes on that as well.

The direction, and acting is fine. I just don't care for the story that much at all. There are better movies out there depicting drug addiction.
