One dimensional characters and tone deaf tackling of important issues
4 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to enjoy this film, a good cast and an attempt at raising important issues in a light hearted way. I did not enjoy it. The characters were one dimensional which made it difficult to relate to them, the relationships weren't believable and there was no chemistry between anyone in the film. I found it hard to believe the female leads as a couple as they were barely near each other and rarely showed any real love or care. Spoiler.....

The worst part for me was the shameless use of stillbirth as a plot device. This emotive issue was plonked into the middle of what was supposed to be a light hearted film and done properly could have raised awareness of this sad reality that touches so many families. It was treated as a catalyst to wrap up the film and the baby was never acknowledged again by either parent....just sad and unrealistic. Overall it's disappointing that these actors tackled these issues in such a shallow and meaningless way.
