Family Business (2019–2021)
5/10
Great actors, poor script
25 October 2020
I was very excited to watch this series with some of my favorite French actors (Jonathan Cohen, Liliane Rivière & Gerard Darmon) and saw the first 4 episodes of season 1 before I stopped watching.

First, I loved the way actors play in the series (which was the biggest fear I had for a French show). I also discovered other talented actors such as Julia Piaton and Olivier Rosemberg. It's very fluid, characters are believable and dialogues are impactful - whether they're funny or serious. I am not surprised the lead actors got nominated for awards. All 5 stars of my review go to them.

However, the scenario goes haywire. « Il part en couilles » as we say in France. The storyline shifts 6 times per episode, characters being put in unbelievable situations too fast and too often. Perhaps other people will find it enjoyable, but I was expecting something more realistic and believable than what Family Business has to offer. To me, it felt like the scenarists took shortcuts or that they tried to pack as much as they could in a very short amount of time (the episodes are quite short indeed, around 30 min). After 4 episodes of uninterrupted preposterous situations, the show lost its appeal and I didn't feel like watching it anymore.
