6/10
Pretty good, rather out of the ordinary for Hammer
10 November 2020
Richard Greene returns as my favourite Robin Hood ever, unfortunately none of the other cast do except for a few recurring actors from the show, none of Little John, Will Scarlet, Maid Marian or Friar Tuck return which is a huge disappointment as their replacements aren't as good. Peter Cushing has a rather small role as the Sheriff of Nottingham here, taking over from the brilliant Alan Wheatley, oddly enough the film is directed by Terence Fisher who also did Dracula (1958) and many other Hammer Horror classics.

Acting wise Richard Greene and Peter Cushing do very well, and Oliver Reed has a minor role as well which is notable. Richard Pasco plays the villain (he was in a few episodes of the series, which is 100% worth a watch) and he does a good job. It's also in colour whereas the show was black and white.

Fisher does a good job of shooting the scenes, I loved some of the medieval sets and decor, the costumes were top notch as well and the weaponry used by the characters very authentic looking, in the tv show they used antique weapons from the time!

The plot's a bit confusing and manages to drag out for a long time, but it was interesting to see Robin team up with the baddies for a bit.

6/10: A good film, but lacks the normal cast and the TV show seems to be better quality. But it's worth a watch for Richard Greene fans!
