Cutting a bad deal
12 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Belker (a fine Bruce Weitz) gets trapped in the luggage compartment of a bus while working undercover. Hunter (an amusing James Sikking) gets himself a dog. Furillo (a typically outstanding Daniel J. Travanti) grants immunity to illegal arms dealer Russ (a chilling portrayal by Stan Shaw) for vital information on the death of Captain Keenan, but later regrets it after Russ reveals that he killed Garibaldi.

The whole bad deal with Russ fiasco shows that sometimes certain means to an end don't work out as planned, with one bust negating the ability to make another bust. Belker's predicament also provides a good example of the tremendous peril inherent in undercover police work. Moreover, we also get two radically contrasting methods of police work, with the more subtle Goldblume (sturdy Joe Spano) taking issue with the blunt and rough approach used by Buntz (a terrific Dennis Franz). Hunter adopting a dog speaks volumes about his poignant need for companionship. In addition, there's a funny scene between Belker and a fat lady (a hilarious turn by Marji Martin) on a bus.
