A fine afternoon flick
26 March 2021
Once upon a time, we had matinees with cheesy double features. Now, we The Asylum; a production house turning out low-budget flicks on mirco-budgets. Their movies are not good in the traditional sense, but they will give you about an hour and half of action and adventure. Alien Conquest delivers. While lacking the goofiness of a Sharknado or Gatoriod, or the clear send up of the newest tent pole feature (see: Atlantic Rim (or see the new MST3K version)), it comes with a solid story, excellent pace, and better acting than expected. Its an hour and a half not wasted on a traditional, War of the Worlds-esque story. Extra props to Emily Killian, who was able to spit out piles of pseudo-science in a fairly believable way. Its a feat and a skill not to be discounted in sci-fi media! Though... those Soviet tanks...
