Review of Invictus

Invictus (2009)
6/10
A good film with big flaws

This film is called "Invictus", it was produced in 2009 by Clint Eastwood, the main actors are Matt Damon an Morgan Freeman. In summary, Nelson Mandela's election marks the end of Apartheid but South Africa is still a racially and economically nation. Mandela relies on sport with the captain of the South Africa rugby team to unify the country. Their goal is to go to the 1995 World Cup and win it, even though they are of average ability. In my opinion, the movie could have been less centered on rugby and more on the life of black people in the shanty towns. Let me explain my point of view, on the one hand, the film highlights the important facts of Apartheid to the entire world, it maintains the duty of remembrance. In addition to that we learn more about Mandela's life and his feelings in prison. Eastwood's movie is also fascinating, we are stressed at different moments and enjoyed in others moments. On the other hand, this production shows a Disney version of Apartheid with a beautiful happy end, whereas racism is still present in South Africa. Like I said precendently, it's too focused on rugby and show enough the proverty and discrimination of black people. It counts for me, Iwould see that more. Moreover, I find that Morgan Freeman's accent isn't natural end the team production isn't composed of enough South Africans. In conclusion, I recommend this movie for those who don't know the Apartheid and Mandela's life. Nevertheless, it's not a decent film for those who know Apartheid and even live though the Apartheid.
