Any film that has Chief Dan George crashing a party is cool in my book.

The Academy Award nominated actor from "Little Big Man" gives a truly beautiful performance as an aging native medicine man, grandfather of Jan Michael Vincent (the epitome of 70's beauty) who needs help dealing with an ancient curse that seeks revenge on their family. Years before, a murderous native American woman was sentenced to death by their ancestors and has come back for retribution.

These threatening curses can appear in any form, whether as a demonic looking black vehicle, a deadly adder, a native American warrior or any number of creatures or natural phenomena. There's a strange looking wild cat like human looking on at George, Vincent and free lance journalist Marilyn Hassett who seems to be in control of these beings, and the scene is set in the Canadian wilderness for a scary and awesome showdown.

The film starts with George leaving his native land to head to the city, collapsing on the street and being found by Hassett, taken to his grandson, and slightly manipulating him to take him home where he reveals what he is up against. Time is limited when Chief Dan George is bitten by the adder, and there are a lot of obstacles as they face the wild. A scene with a swinging bridge is quite frightening, but that's followed by unintentionally funny scene where Hassett begins to roll down a wooded hill screaming for help. Vincent, who has denied his native heritage, slowly becomes drawn into this situation.

Certainly Jan Michael Vincent does not look native American, but it is indicated that he is part Caucausian which could realistically explain why. The film is filled with intrigue and danger, enough horror elements to put it in the supernatural thriller category, and characters you root for. Chief Dan George has such a sweet, grandfatherly presence that he commands every moment. Not a perfect or totally believable film, but it will keep patient viewers interested, and gives a different view into the traditions and spirituality of natives that reiterates their humanity in a cruel world that was stolen from them.
