An excellent first episode.

Quirke digs deeper when his adopted brother Malachy appears to tamper with a body that has shown up on his slab, Christine Falls.

Gabriel Byrne is terrific as Quirke, he's a fascinating character, brilliantly performed, so good that we get to learn his back story, his place in life, and how smart he is.

I loved the story, so utterly bleak and nasty, but captivating and intriguing nonetheless. Terrific production values, this is incredibly well made, atmospheric and moody.

Amazing acting, Byrne was awesome, in great company with Michael Gambon and the velvet voiced Stanley Townsend.

It feels like another show that got away, it seemed The BBC and ITV were battling to land a quiet historical crime series, The BBC failed us with this one, ITV failed with Jericho, a shame, as both were excellent I thought, success would be found with George Gently and Endeavour.

Great start, 8/10.
