This used to be on in the middle of the night when I was a teen (usually babysitting). There was another similar movie called Sandcastles by Jan Michael Vincent that was also a midnight regular. Haven't been able to see either for decades.
At one point (when the internet was new...) I read that Wayne Newton bought the rights to the movie and either trashed it or locked it in a vault because it got such bad critical reviews.
It's a shame, because it was the only movie I've ever brought up in a group of people my age that they never forgot. There was a person who uploaded it early 2021, but it has disappeared already. Wish I could figure out how to contact him and pick up a copy. It's corny but very sweet.
