M-G-M's second Cinemascope Musical released with Rose Marie, and just before Seven Brides for Seven brothers is sumptuous in the true M-G-M tradition and in2.55 Cinemascope and stereo sound this film is a treat. Mario Lanza is the voice, and Edmund Purdom is the star perfectly syncing to Lanza's pre recorded tracks before being removed from the production.
Ann Blyth's best role, and the support cast are wonderful from Louis Calhern and Edmund Gwenn to SZ Cuddles Sakall. This is one of the most overlooked titles for an upgrade to blu ray - so this is better than none. Enjoy the beautifully paced film that enjoyed massive success on release at Radio City Music Hall - enjoy the magic of a beautifully crafted film - Purdom & Ann Blyth are terrific in the leads and the finale will leave you with a lump!
