The Best WWF Pay-Per-View During It's Companies Harder Times

Warning: Spoilers
In 1993 after Hulk Hogan departed from the WWF, CEO Vince McMahon was trying to find someone to fill in that void. While he was definitely eying on Lex Luger to do the job, the fans were gravitating towards Bret "The Hitman" Hart as the big star of the company. At the 1994 "Royal Rumble" Luger and Hart were co-winners which made them both face the WWF World Champion Yokozuna at Wrestlemania 10. However, both had to face another opponent the same night. Due to a coin toss, Lex Luger got to face Yokozuna first, the winner will face Bret in the main event.

Wrestlemania X was set in New York City at Madison Square Garden to mark the 10th anniversary of the first Wrestlemania as we had rock legend Little Richard sing "America the Beautiful" and we are underway.

The opening match was between Bret Hart against his younger brother "The Rocket" Owen Hart which was the launching pad for an explosive feud between them during the year. What was excellent about this match was that the brothers were not going to resort their rivalry through stiff kicks and punches, but by the moves they learned from their father Stu Hart's dungeon in Calgary. The match was solid back and forth technical wrestling, combined with heated tension from both men. After many moves by both men, and each escaping the sharpshooter, Bret goes for a victory, but Owen reverses it and gets the pin and the win. Classic opening match to kick off and one of the best opening matches in wrestling history.

Then we had a mixed tag team match between Doink the Clown and his midgit partner Dink taking Bam Bam Bigelow and his partner Luna Vachon. I will say there was some good chemistry between Doink and Bam Bam, I just felt like it should've been better off if it was a one-fall contest between the two and maybe have Luna interfere at some point. There was some mind games being played between the clowns, but the turning pont came after Dink was knocked off the ring apron, but Bam Bam finishes off with a diving headbutt for the win. Mostly played for comedy without the laughs.

Next we had a Falls Count Anywhere match between Randy "Macho Man" Savage against Crush with a bit of a twist. In this contest, pinning your opponent isn't good enough, he has to return to the ring in 60 seconds in order to lose. Great brawling from both men and Savage as always provided great entertainment, lots of weapons and arsenal being used, perfectly legal. Many times Crush may have looked down, but manager Mr. Fuji would help him along the way. The ending of the match has Randy ramming Crush's head to the doors pinning him and then tying his legs to a dangling cable so he won't get back in the ring in time for the win. Too bad it was Randy's last wrestling match with company as he would do commentary on shows and then leave for WCW.

The we had the WWF Women's Championship match between Leilani Kai taking on Alundra Blayze during the WWF's effort to bring women's wrestling back in company after it was banished for many years. Kai fought at the first Wrestlemania and was brought on simply for the nostalgia purposes and nothing more. Alundra Blayze wins with a bridging German suplex and retains her title.

WWF Tag Team Title match between Men on a Mission (Mo and Mabel) taking on The Quebecers (Jacques and Pierre). Pretty clunky, slow-paced match with mild levels of entertainment from both teams. After Mo and Mabel were starting to gain momentum, the Quebecers take the count-out loss to keep the championship giving Men on a Mission a tainted win.

Next we have the first of two WWF World Title match came next as Yokozuna would defend his title against Lex Luger. New Kid on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg was the guest ring announcer while "Up All Night" host Rhonda Shear was the guest timekeeper. And Mr. Perfect was the special guest referee. The winner will face Bret later in the night. Hoping for a better match than they had at "Summerslam 93", there was some great back and forth action by these two. Several nearfalls, but fans were not as hyped up as they were about this match compared to the previous summer when these two first faced off. Luger tries to ensure the victory with the bionic elbow, but Mr. Perfect refuses the count of three instead has managers Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji ejected. Luger confronts Perfect, but accidently touched Mr. Perfect who disqualifies him. Therefore Yokozuna wins and faces Bret later on. Too bad Perfect and Luger couldn't do much for a possible feud because perfect would be out of the WWF shortly after and Luger's star quality in the WWF would diminish.

Then there was Earthquake easily defeated Adam Bomb in just 35 seconds doing a belly-to-belly suplex and a vertical splash and that was it.

Then we had a classic battle for the WWF Intercontinental Title between Razor Ramon defending the title against faux champion Shawn Michaels in a Ladder Match where you must climb the ladder to retrieve the title (or in this case titles because Shawn still though he was the champion because he never lost). Shawn uses his quickness to overcome the bigger Razor and uses the ladder to his advantage. One highlight includes Shawn doing a big splash off a ladder. Both men use the ladder in their favour. A lot of close attempts from both men. The turning point is when Shawn's foot gets caught between the ladder, Razor grabs both belts for the win. A groundbreaking classic that made the Ladder Match a staple gimmick match in wrestling.

Finally the second World Title match and the main event between Bret Hart vs. Yokozuna. Screen legend Burt Reynolds was the special ring announcer and 90210 star Jenny Garth was the guest timekeeper and Roddy Piper was the guest referee. Bret still looks groggy after his match with Owen but sells it well, while Yoko naturally looks tired from his match with Luger and it showed. Bret and Yoko had good chemistry still and Yoko can still deliver, The turning point ended when Yoko slipped off the rope after attempting to hir the Banzai drop. Bret pins Yoko to win the title.

One of the best Wrestlemania's ever.
