Basic story is flawed to begin with

Warning: Spoilers
I really loved "Scorpion's revenge" and unfortunately this sequel is way worse. The story is flawed to begin with. Earth has just won a Mortal Kombat tournament and the next one isn't scheduled before a thousand years in the future. Shao Kahn is still invading Earth and therefore breaking the laws of the Elder Gods. But what does Raiden do? Make sure that Kahn is punished and banished from Earth? No! He agrees to a new and final tournament to begin right now!

And what about the Shinnok storyline? Isn't the key to his prison in Shang Tsung's hands at the end of "Scorpion's Revenge" or am I remembering it wrong? Now Shinnok is somehow freed and wants to release a super-god being that will merge all the realms and destroy the world. Scorpion's soul is now magically connected to the key (FORMERLY to Shinnoks prison in "Scorpion's Revenge") and the key NOW opens the entrance to a temple that holds a magic object that Shinnok needs to free the super-god. Wtf?

The movie isn't as bad as the live-action adaptation prior this year, but almost no character has the chance to evolve, because there is no time to do so. The writers tried to pack way to much story into this movie and just failed. It's very disappointing. I expected a lot more, escpecially regarding the Shinnok storyline :-(
