Friends isn't a personable favorite of mine, but I won't lie that it contains some really solid episodes that makes it understandable why it's considered great, but there is some episodes that shock me to why they are highly-rated.
Now, don't get me wrong, 'The Last One' isn't a BAD episode, it has its moments that stick with you, but as the conclusion to the series? Really? Is this all you got?
I really wanted to like it as much as the others did, I mean, I did like Friends despite it jumping the shark seasons ago, and wanted the series to end with a high note, but instead what we got is some basic cliché ending that could LITERALLY be replicated in any other show. Not only that, but the way they forcefully try to make Ross and Rachel a relationship after breaking them up for, what it feels like a million times, is INCREDIBLY repetitive and annoying. I understood what they were going for, but the plot of this episode and the directing did not connect to it at all and did poorly to support what they were going for. Everything just feels messy
It feels like they wanted to think of a way to satisfy the fans who love this toxic relationship by adding something that probably didn't even come in mind to the staff until they were half-way done so they just slapped it onto the final minutes and call it a day.
The writing here is also sloppy, and disappointing to say the least. The fact that this episode is ranked on-par with the brilliant and well-written 'The One Where Everybody Finds Out' or even 'The One with the Embryos' is baffling.
Overall, its a mediocre finale with, IMO, a disappointing closure that tried its best to please. I don't blame the writers though, making an finale for a long-running series that contents everyone is DIFFICULT (look at Seinfeld). But, that doesn't change my outlook or what I think about the ending, and hopefully it doesn't to you.
