One Hour with You is a lighthearted pre-code musical with rhyming dialogue and double entendre delivered with sly abandon by a happily married doctor played by Maurice Chevalier. Breaking the fourth wall constantly Chevalier laments the pitfalls of temptation while nevertheless falling prey to it as wife Jeanette McDonald suspects and suffers along in song.
All of the Chevalier, McDonald teamings clicked well and One Hour is no exception with its trite, silly storyline a charming comic risque musical. Charles Ruggles and Genevieve Tobin as would be seducers and comic foils add to the frivolity while director Lubitsch touches matters up with suggestiveness but the charismatic Chevalier leaves no doubt it is his picture.
