Crash Course (1988 TV Movie)
4/10
Yay yay Jackee. The rest not so much.

Warning: Spoilers
Even with veteran comics Harvey Korman and Ray Walston, this teen comedy fails to generate many laughs, that is until Jackee Harry shows up. She is hysterically funny as the interloper who interrupts driver's ed teacher Charles Robinson's class and shoots at the obnoxious teens with her dart gun. Harry and Robinson, two of the stars from "227", of course become romantically involved, but it's only Jackee provides any heat. Teen actors Brian Bloom, Alyssa Milano and Tina Yothers (among others) are given cliched characterizations, and B. D. Wong is embarrassing as a Japanese student who is one of the most idiotic attempts at lady killer ever on the small screen.

There's also Edie McClurg as Milano's overly protective mother and Dick Butkus as another one of the parents, ridiculously stereotyped and outrageously unfunny. Korman and Walston get the worst material, sad considering their past work. When Jackee comes on like gangbusters, the laughs are overabundance every time she is on screen. She's like the Debbie Allen of Driver's Education carrying a dart gun rather than a big stick. If it wasn't for her presents, I would give this a complete bomb rating. Outside of her, this would be dated instantly, far worse than any of the many bad teen comedies made a decade before.
