Warning: Spoilers
. . . the domestic release of THE DARK AVENGER (aka, THE WARRIORS) as the worst fate ever to befall our U. S. Homeland on a Sept. 11th. This film is not remembered Today as one of Mr. Flynn's best. It is no ROBIN HOOD, or even a CAPTAIN BLOOD. Errol does not play an avuncular father figure, as he did during his twilight decade in KIM. Instead, he is cast as the rich scion of a Fat Cat mob of self-proclaimed "overlords," more likely to steal from the Poor and give to the Rich than ROBIN HOOD was prone to do the opposite. Allied Artists' miscasting forced Mr. Flynn to try to make amends by filming and leading THE CUBAN REBEL GIRLS in Real Life a few years later, prompting a federal government Black Ops which assassinated him, under the cover story that he already had one foot and four more toes in his grave during the production of THE WARRIORS.
