Monk: Mr. Monk and the Leper (2006)
Season 5, Episode 10
A leper and a jittery detective walk into a bar
22 December 2021
The writers are always looking for new ways to confront their main character with his worst fears, and presenting him with a leper somehow feels both outrageous and inevitable. The comedy writing here is so good that I can forgive the script allowing me to be way ahead of our brilliant detective on what the criminals are up to. Maybe Monk hasn't seen the films noir that inspired the plot.

Among this episode's treats are seeing Natalie get a taste of what it's like to live in Monk's phobic skin, while Randy faces his own pock-marked teenaged past. But just as Monk is off his game here, so is the continuity supervisor, when Randy breaks off a piece of a wall, only to have it magically restored seconds later.
