Human (2022– )
7/10
Shefali Shah is the highlight of this mediocre thriller about drug trials

Human is Hotstar's first series of 2022. The much awaited series revolves around drug trials & has the versatile Shefali Shah in the lead.

Set in Bhopal, the show centres around Aspire Pharma, the company manufacturing a new heart medicine that is currently conducting drug trials (with humans as the guinea pigs). Manthan Hospital is a premier hospital in Bhopal that is headed by renowned neurosurgeon, Gauri (Shefali Shah). Enter Saira, a promising Cardiac Surgeon, who joins Manthan. A series of events that follow show a connection between Aspire & Manthan.

Shefali Shah is clearly the star here. She steals the limelight just like her character Gauri. She is at the centre of everything that transpires. She will literally send a chill down your spine. You don't want to get on her bad side. Kirti Kulhari plays Saira, the promising newbie who sucks up to Gauri. Kulhari plays a vulnerable character, who lies to avoid problems in life. Kulhari is great as Saira. Vishal N. Jethwa (Mardaani 2), Seema Biswas, Shruti Bapna, Atul Kumar, Aasif Khan, Riddhi Kumar & Official Ram Kapoor co-star.

Human is quite ambitious. The show intends to highlight a serious issue by including the role of various players: the test subjects, corporate hospitals, drug companies and NGOs. And that is a lot of ground to cover in just 10 episodes. The series starts of really well with the initial episodes setting the stage of a big & nefarious industry. But it starts to lag as it lurches on and by the time you reach the finale, you stop caring for the characters.

Nevertheless, Human boasts of excellent performances. Shefali Shah, Kirti Kulkarni, Vishal Jethwa & Riddhi Kumar are sublime! If you have time to kill, Human is definitely watchable.
