Charming fun

Warning: Spoilers
If you're looking for heavy drama...this ain't it. And thank goodness. I get tired of the same old crime/thriller pics we have. Once in awhile I just want a fun, feel-good movie. And this fits the bill.

Another reviewer said it's corny. Yeah. Probably so. But not much more so than "Coming 2 America", which in some ways this film reminds me of.

I am not familiar with Laura Marano, who plays an American hairdresser here, who falls in love with a prince of some imaginary country (filmed, in part, in New Zealand). Marano seems to be a natural; I look forward to seeing her in more films. And we have Mena Massoud (Aladdin) as the Prince. We all know how charming he is, and he's just a natural in front of the camera. Why we don't see a lot more of him, I don't know; I can only imagine it's due to his heritage. Together Marano and Massoud make a fine screen pair. Supporting actor Cameron Rhodes is charmingly and humorously perfect as the prince's doting attendant.

As to what a couple of our reviewers pointed out, you know pretty much from the outset what the plot will be and how it will end. Just like almost every other movie I've seen in the last 60-odd years. The number of times that I have sat through a movie thinking, "Gee, I wonder what this is about and how it will end", I can count on my fingers. It's almost always more about how do we get to the conclusion.

I'm not saying this movie is "deep", but then again, few movies are. This one is just fun. Just fun.
