Good terror/comedy movie with with excellent dark and light atmosphere creating an eerie and creepy scenario . It is set in 1828, Edinburgh , Scotland, murderers William Burke (Simon Pegg) and William Hare (Andy Serkis) provide corpses to surgeon Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) who does medical research on cadavers he buys them , without questioning the unethical procurement methods. The peculiar couple of no-count grave robbers and murderers who are supplying fresh anatomical specimens to esteemed professor Dr. Knox of the Edinburgh Medical College in 19th century Scotland by embarking on a lucrative killing spree. Meanwhile , an obstinate officer begins to suspect the origin of the numerous corpses Hare and Burke provide. Murder was their business!.Coffins Looted! Cadavers Dissected! No Job Too Small. No Body Too Big. No Questions Asked. They're making a killing. True love costs an arm and a leg. The pimps and the prostitutes and the body-snatchers. The brothels and dens of iniquity.

This is a fine, suspenseful and intriguing horror/comedy movie based on the actual characters of the nasty gravediggers Burke and Hare providing dead bodies for illegal medical research in charge of Dr. Knox , this true story has been adapted a number of times , in fact this interesting tale was adapted by prestigious writer Robert Louis Stevenson himself in the novel The Body Snatcher . In Burke and Hare (2010) medical horror meets hilarious/sex comedy with tongue-firmly-in-cheek . Tension , horror, thriller , and funnny scenes appear lurking , menacing in graveyard , dark slums , home stairs , rooms and cementery . All characters in the story are present and partially correct , with Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis actually doing very well as the eponymous and comical duo and both of whom share the last creepy as well as fun scenes together . And Tom Wilkinson is on hand to ham it as the stubborn scientist Dr Knox. This pair really convey the whole sleaziness/perversity of the subject, and do so in a fun way , too ; it's a good double-act . Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis give deliciously hammy portrayals , displaying a lively and engaging chemistry as our titular gruesome twosome, while Jessica Hynes, lending fine support as the shrewish Ms. Hare, and Isla Fisher contributes a likable turn as a sweet and gorgeous stage actress. Main and support cast are frankly outstanding . Terrific acting from Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis as sinister graverobbers , they create authentic hilarious set pieces as well as displaying frightening and panic , and Tom Wilkinson and Tim Curry do equally compelling turns . Secondary cast is full of a lot of familar faces, such as : Bill Bailey as hangman , David Schofield , David Hayman , Hugh Bonneville, Pollyanna McIntosh , Georgia King , Allan Corduner , Michael Smiley , Ronnie Corbett . And several cameos from Ray Harryhausen , Steven Berkoff , Costa Gavras , Stephen Merchant, Steve Speirs , Michael Winner , Michael Balfour , Jenny Agutter , and the terror myth Christopher Lee.

This Buke and Hare story has been also rendered in the following films : ¨The Body Snatcher¨ by Robert Wise with Boris Karloff , Bela Lugosi, Henry Daniel ; ¨The Flesh and the Fiends¨ (1960) by John Gilling with Peter Cushing, June Laverick , Donald Pleasence , George Rose ; ¨Burke & Hare¨ (1972) by Vernon Sewell with Darren Nesbitt , Harry Andrews , James Hayter , Yutte Stensgaard , among others.

Musical score is nicely composed by Joby Talbot, adding agreeable and imaginative tunes. The film gets the adequate and evocative atmosphere , thanks to cameraman John Mathieson . The motion picture was well directed by John Landis , though it has some shortcomings and flaws . John Landis is a notorious writer/producer/director with a long career . Landis had his period of maxim splendor in the Eighties when he directed classic comedies, such as ¨Kentucky fried movie", "Into the night", "Animal house¨ , ¨Trading Places¨and, of course, ¨Blues brothers¨. If you're into craziness and overacting of the great comical experts , Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis, this picture is for you. This entertaining and amusing film is still one of the funniest in the sub-genre horror/comedy .
