I'm very glad my animation professor showed this short in class. It's fascinated me ever since. I show it to friends, I constantly reference it (to no avail) and think about it at the strangest times.
Their weirdly expressive faces, the reverberant airiness of the sounds, the creaking of the platform.
The film is surreal, very literal in its messaging, however. It's message can be appreciated by any and everyone and applied to almost any context. Codependence; the inherent necessity of community in all of us. Nations or individuals.
I often think about the remaining figure, standing alone, doomed to be apart from his goal. That final shot is still etched in my brain. Please go watch this short from the Lauenstein brothers!
