Review of Outlander

A favourite aunt overstays her welcome

A fabulous period drama with a compelling premise along with the usual historical trimmings - beautiful costumes, authentic dialogue, delightful settings ... With a strength-in-depth casting including an especially fine performance from Caitríona Balfe as the time challenged Claire, this is a winning format.

Seasons one to three are superb, season four became tedious, drawn out and lacked credibility even in the stretched context of the story. Subsequently it has become a sluggish soap opera, detached from its intriguing core-concept.

Top television, past its best, betrayed its legacy and in need of humane euthanization.
