Well hello. Look at what showed up on Tubi. I remember watching this back in the day. But only an episode here and there. I liked it so-so. But never that much that I had to record it nor was it a must-see for me. Now I'm older and I can see more clearly why. I didn't rewatch it all. Just the first three in the first season and one or two episodes in each of the following seasons. Each episode is about 20-23 minutes long.
It's obviously low budget. It comes off like a b-movie. The villains are ott. Evil cackle and all. Most of the acting wasn't very good. Stacey Haiduck was good in the last couple of seasons. The effects aren't that great. Even before being spoiled by modern effects as a viewer, I could tell back then that they weren't that great. The first Superman actor never really seemed comfortable in the role. The second guy really seemed to embrace it and was much better. I liked the Bizarro character and look. I actually thought that was really good. And he was interesting to look at with the way they did that make-up/mask.
I never read the comics except maybe just a few growing up. So I can't say how good the comparison is. But other reviews have said they stayed true to the comics. It's hard to keep watching given how low grade it is. However, I did find there was a bit of a charm to it. There's almost an innocence to it. The show aired in the late eighties and early nineties. The clothes, the hair. Lol. It's very lighthearted. No one is meant to take this seriously. The good guys always win. Nothing dark or heavy. The budget was so low, yet they tried. It wasn't great, but they did achieve 100 episodes. Keep in mind this was back in the day when there were very few sci-fi/fantasy/horror/superhero shows. Not like today where there are hundreds of stuff. So it did feed a fix for some people.
I think little kids might like it just fine. Say 4-8 years old? It might be the kind of thing I wouldn't mind having on the side whilst I focus on my work on the pc. Or doing cleaning around the house. 3/10.
