the dark avenger
6 May 2022
If you've eaten a slice of bread two days past the time it has begun to go stale or drunk the last unsatisfying cold dregs of coffee left too long in a styrofoam cup then you will have some idea of what it is like to watch this Errol Flynn swashbuckler that does not swash and buckles under the weariness of being the final installment of a cycle long past its prime. Aside from lovely outdoor English countryside cinematography by Guy Green the film is tired, dull, derivative and pathetic with Flynn looking like the twin brother of the actor playing his dad rather than his son and acting as if he is four years away from a premature death which was indeed the case. Give it a C, for corpse.
