If you've seen Wim Wenders's "Buena Vista Social Club", then you've had an introduction to Latin American music, in that case Cuban. You'll get even more from Fernando Trueba's "Calle 54". This documentary looks at Latin jazz. There's some narration, but mostly it shows the musicians playing their music. You gotta appreciate the work that these folks put into it. To be certain, this was the first time that I had heard of a lot of these musicians.
Basically, this documentary is an experience like no other. You'll have a great time watching it, and you'll be eager to hear even more Latin jazz. Definitely check it out.
That Swedish gal probably never imagined that she'd get married to an Afro-Cuban musician; I wonder if she even knew about Afro-Cuban musicians before meeting Bebo Valdés.
