I'm so baffled reading how people hated this be sure it's not like the original. It's like people can't understand what a drama is.
Bel Air is a drama inspired by the nineties sitcom. Nothing more, nothing less. It is about a West Philly sixteen year old who is sent to live with his hella rich relatives in Bel Air as his life would be in danger if he stayed due to an altercation with a gang member.
There's some great casting throughout, and some characters have been given a personality overhaul (notably Carlton) to give the drama more conflict, which is necessary.
At heart, this is a wonderful update, and has the same core and heart as it's inspiration. It's a bit of a soap opera, but has plenty of decent dramatic beats and gives the whole family decent screen time not just Will.
If you want a decent, engaging African American drama this is well worth your time. If you want a Fresh Prince remake just go elsewhere and stop moaning.
