In Verona, Rosaline (Kaitlyn Dever) falls for Romeo despite their warring families. Her cousin Juliet (Isabela Merced) visits and Romeo becomes less interested in her. He starts dating Juliet instead. Her father Adrian (Bradley Whitford) seeks to find a husband for Rosaline despite her protestation. He does eventually send her Dario (Sean Teale). Janet (Minnie Driver) is her nurse.
I don't like the opening balcony scene. I don't like making Romeo a fool. I get the idea for comedic effect, but it puts me off. It puts me off for a while. The comedy does not hit initially. Steve the Courier annoyed me. A lot of this bug me until Kaitlyn Dever starts taking down the story itself. She has good comedic skills and the movie finally puts them to good use. The last act is actually quite funny and then it's dumb and then it's funny. It alternates back and forth. It's fun.
