In 8th century China, the Silk Road was controlled by Buddhists, but Turkish nomads want dominance and raiders won't leave caravans alone. In the Gobi Desert, an agent of the empire, Lai Qi, is sent to execute a defecting soldier, Lt. I read that they refuse to execute Turkish prisoners.
