Review of The Enforcer

The Enforcer (2022)

The Lower Depths

Warning: Spoilers
"The Enforcer" charts a course into the lower depths of the tough streets of Miami. Antonio Banderas anchors the film in the role of Cuda, the ex-con who is struggling to find a way to redemption.

The strength of the film was in an intriguing set of characters who become enmeshed with Cuda: the tough-as-nails Stray (Ricky), Lexus (Sloane) the stripper, and young Billie, a runaway befriended by Cuda.

There was a surreal quality to the world of organized crime depicted in the film. It was not clear how the ruthless Estelle and the equally ruthless Freddie kept their nefarious "business" activities in operation. There was no sign of any law enforcement in their universe.

In the end, the film was far too violent, and there was not a credible payoff in the contrived ending. From kick-boxer to auto repair man, Stray experienced a journey that was as improbable as it was incomprehensible. And it was only due to the superhuman efforts of Cuda that he escaped the lower depths.
