I mostly liked it
12 December 2022
When it comes to Ozu, I find myself liking many of the movies that other people seem to really love. I definitely liked An Autumn Afternoon a lot, and I think the only one I'd rank it under (when it comes to Ozu films I've seen) is Tokyo Story.

Still, I don't quite find myself being fully sucked into his leisurely paced, very human stories, though I do feel a lot of love towards the films of Yoji Yamada, who's seen as something of a successor to Ozu, and deals with similar stories relating to family drama and relationships in 20th century Japan.

I will continue watching more from Yasujiro Ozu though, and I hope one day his work clicks and I find myself loving his filmography the way many others do.
