They were real people...

Warning: Spoilers
...although when I sat down to watch this film I didn't realize that. But the name Nora Bayes stuck in my mind, so I looked it up and voila! One of the great performers of yesteryear. And, of course, the song "Harvest Moon" is a lovely classic. But I watched the film because I always liked both Ann Sheridan and Dennis Morgan.

The problem with the film...well, it's typical for a Hollywood biopic...in other words, mostly inaccurate. But it's still an enjoyable musical with some decent drama, as well. Oh...one other problem...Jack Carson as a magician...it's obvious that it's all camera tricks. Why they so frequently teamed him up with Dennis Morgan, I don't know.

Yes, the song sung to/with Marie Wilson was a bit insulting...but most of her career was spent playing 'dumb', particularly the "My Friend Irma" series on radio and television.

I kept thinking that it was too bad this wasn't filmed in color...and then the finale was. A shame the whole film wasn't.

It's an enjoyable film, but a good example why Warner Brothers was not noted for their musicals.
